From the Pages of Your Novel to Real Life

The best part about having two jobs is when they can interact with each other.  One of my favorite characters to develop in Curse of the Moira was the most evil one…Mortwar.  So much anger and resentment made him who he is.  But recently I have been focusing more on his physical aspects – his slimy gray skin, piercing green eyes, ugly scars, and anvil tattoo.  Why?  Because he NEEDED to be turned into a Lego Minifigure.  It just needed to happen.  Having villains in your collection is sometimes even better than having heroes.  And now he has been designed into a custom Lego Minifigure!  It was such a fun process trying to create Mortwar from my imagination into a real 3D thing (especially in such a small scale…Lego scale).  The whole process of writing and designing has been challenging, and that just makes it that much more fulfilling.  And to see the characters fly off the shelves isn’t so bad either 🙂  Check Mortwar the Minifigure out today: http://www.brickwarriors.com/mortwar/

A Cheaters Guide to Gift Giving?

Merry Christmas to all!  That’s a broad statement, since I only have 20 followers…but Merry Christmas to you guys!  You’re the best!  Christmas is such a wonderful time of year.  I love the positive atmosphere, the silly Christmas shows and movies, the decorations, the music, and the general cheer in the air.  But one of the things I love the most of all is buying presents for people!  I have such a fun time trying to find the perfect gifts for those on my list.  And I love watching everyone’s faces as they open that something special.

This year I majorly cheated though.  I gave out a lot of the same present!  So you’re probably wondering, what was this magical present that I gave out to so many people this year?  You guessed it!  Copies of my book!  But I truly thought it was a great gift.  And I’ve totally hopped on that train of authors saying you should buy books for people for Christmas…because it’s true!  There’s nothing like experiencing the magic of a good read, and really jumping into the characters shoes.  It’s an experience that I’ve enjoyed since I was a kid, and that feeling is something you never get tired of.  Well…unless you have that terrible editor’s hat on.  I’ve never liked wearing hats and that one is my least favorite of all!

So I know that you’re not really supposed to give out handmade gifts to people after elementary school.  But after two years of hard work, I feel like my book is more professional than it is handmade 🙂  I’m proud of Curse of the Moira, and barely anyone I know has actually read it.  Heck, they still might not read it even with a copy in their hands.  But I sure hope that they’ll read at least a few pages.  Who knows, they may just get hooked!

So Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good read!

No One Wants To Read About A Wanted Homeless Man

Oy vey!  So I think I’ve been making a mistake while I’m looking for new novels to read, because recently it just seems like they all suck.  And A Wanted Man by Lee Child was no exception.  Actually, it wasn’t just not an exception, it was at the top of the suckage list.  So I was reading A Wanted Man earlier this week and it was going along fairly well.  Kind of slow paced action with too much detail and repetitive content, but good enough if you could overlook those things.  But then it just started dragging along more and more.  The crazy math loving homeless man just started to get frustratingly annoying.  Every time he talked about how “statistics are useful tools” and how “a room acted like a lobby,” I wanted to murder someone.  I wanted to reach into the pages and strangle this homeless man for being so repetitive.

So ignore my weird anger issues for a second.  In the middle of the week I got busy and had to stop reading with about 20 pages left.  Then I forgot about it until last night.  Just completely forgot.  For some reason I assumed I had finished and then randomly saw it on the floor and remembered I needed to finish it.  That’s like the ultimate bad book experience, right?  It was a thriller lacking thrill.  Such a fail.  Maybe it was the fact that the only two characters with depth died.

It was the first novel I’ve ever read by Lee Child, so maybe I picked the wrong one.  But I won’t be reading any more of his novels.  And here’s the kicker…it was published by Delacorte Press…you know, my favorite publishing company.  Anyone who puts out sludge like this and The Maze Runner does not deserve to be a publishing company.  Oy vey indeed.  So trust me when I saw you do not want to read about this wanted homeless man.

An Early Jump Into the Holidays

Thanksgiving is a wonderful holiday because there are so many things to be thankful for that we overlook in our everyday lives.  And no matter the bad, it’s always important to take the time to appreciate what you do have.  This year, the thing that I was most thankful for was that I was lucky to be able to spend Thanksgiving with my fiancé and his family…and that I’m doing well in fantasy football. 🙂

And it’s officially Christmas season now, so it’s appropriate to listen to Christmas music.  Finally!  I’m one of those people who jumps into Christmas early.  It’s such a magical time of year, and I like that warm fuzzy feeling to last as long as possible.  No matter how old I get, I hope I can hold onto that childhood wonder of the season.  I was looking through my Christmas YouTube playlist and stumbled upon this wonderful song.  Here’s to my wonderful fiancé for making Thanksgiving day and every day bright:

“Time to give and receive,

but the only gift I need

is to share this day

and every day with you.”

– Josh Kelley

And ABC Family’s 25 Days of Christmas starts tonight!  Equally excited about this and Christmas music!

During a raid gone awry, Draxin escapes and meets Ravelin, a mysterious royal agent tasked with protecting the king. Together, they race against time to stop the Thieves Guild before the king arrives in town for the annual Elk Day Festival.

Throughout his quest to save the king and unearth the demons of his past, Draxin must outwit a menagerie of fearsome beasts and sinister villains to keep from literally losing his head.

Will Draxin solve the riddle of regicide in time to save the king, or will Yortaz and the poisonous Thieves Guild prevail?
